"What surprises you most about humankind?"
"사람들을 보실때 어떤것이 가장 신기한지요..?"
GOD answered.
신이 대답했습니다.
"That they get bored with childhood, they rush to grow up,
and then long to be children again."
"어린시절을 지루해 하는 것, 서둘러 자라나길 바라고
다시 어린시절로 돌아가길 갈망하는 것..."
"That they lose their health to make money...
and then lose their money to restore their health."
"돈을 벌기 위해서 건강을 잃어 버리는 것,
그리고는 건강을 되찾기 위해서 돈을 잃어 버리는 것...."
"That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present,
such that they live in neither the present nor the future."
"미래를 염려하다가 현재를 놓쳐버리는 것..
결국 미래에도 현재에도 살지 못하는 것..."
GOD''s hand took mine and we were silent for a while.
신이 나의 손을 잡았고 우리는 잠시 침묵에 빠졌습니다...
And then I asked,
그리고 난 질문했습니다.
"As a parent, what are some of life''s lessons
you want your children to learn?"
"아버지로써.. 어떤 교훈들을 당신의 자녀들에게 전해주고 싶으신가요..?"
"To learn they cannot make anyone love them.
All they can do is let themselves be loved."
"다른사람이 자기를 사랑하도록 강요할 수 없다는것을....
단지 네가 할 수 있는 것은 너 스스로를 사랑받게 만드는 것이라는 것을..."
"To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others."
"다른 사람과 너 자신을 비교하는 것이 좋지 않다는 것을.."
"To learn to forgive by praticing forgiveness."
"용서함으로써 용서를 배우기를.."
"To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open
profound wounds in those they love.
and it can take many years to heal them."
"사랑하는 사람에게 커다란 상처를 주기에는 단지 몇초의 시간밖에 걸리지 않지만
그 상처가 아물기에는 몇년의 시간이 걸린다는것을..."
"To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most,
but is one who needs the least."
"부자는 가장 많이 가진 사람이 아니라 가장 적게 필요한 사람이라는것을..."
